Remote assistance lets me securely connect to your computer over the internet so I can diagnose problems, install software, and fix issues without needing to take your device away.
This is ideal for software faults, slow PCs, email issues, internet problems and general “something’s not working” support.
I mainly use remote support for Windows PCs and laptops, but in some cases I can also assist with Mac, tablets, and smartphones (where supported).
Software I Use
For all remote sessions I use Zoho Assist, a professional, encrypted remote-support tool used by IT technicians worldwide.
You can read more about Zoho Assist on their website:
https://www.zoho.com/assist
Is Remote Access Safe?
Your privacy and security are extremely important to me. To keep you safe:
I can only connect after you give permission and run the Zoho Assist program on your computer.
You can see everything I am doing on your screen in real time.
You can end the session at any time by closing the Zoho Assist window.
Sessions are encrypted and not recorded.
I will only access parts of the computer that are needed to carry out the work we agreed.
I will never look through your personal files, photos or emails unless you have specifically asked for data recovery or file transfer.
What You Need Before We Start
Before a remote session, please make sure:
Your computer is switched on and connected to the internet.
You are sitting at the computer (or close by) during the session.
You know your Windows login password (if you have one).
You have booked an appointment time with me in advance.
Remote sessions are by appointment only – please contact me first to arrange a suitable time.
Step-by-Step: Starting a Remote Session
Book an appointment
Contact me via the website, email or phone to arrange a time for your remote session.
Go to the Remote Support page at the agreed time
Open this page on the computer that needs help.
Click the red “Install Remote Connection Software” button
This will take you to the Zoho Assist download page that I use for my sessions.
Download and run the small program
On Windows, this will usually be a .exe file (for example, join.exe).
Click Run or Open when your browser asks.
Read out or type the session code (if shown)
Sometimes Zoho will show a session ID/code. I may ask you to read this to me or type it in so I can connect.
Allow the connection
A message will appear asking if you want to allow remote access.
Click Allow / Accept so I can control your mouse and keyboard.
Stay on the computer while I work
You’ll be able to watch everything I’m doing. If you’re unsure about anything, just ask – I’ll explain in plain English.
End of session
When we’re finished, I will close the remote connection. You can also end it at any time by closing the Zoho Assist window.
Important Notes
Only install or run the remote-connection software if I have asked you to do so.
I will never phone or message you unexpectedly asking for remote access – if this happens, it is not me.
Remote support is charged at my standard Remote Software Support hourly rate (as listed on the Services & Pricing page). I will always confirm costs before starting work.
